Should I buy a 240V inverter?
Because a 240V inverter doesnt actually give you two 110V legs unless its actually a "split phase" inverter. Though buying a split phase inverter is a good idea. Signineer has a decent one for about 600 bucks for 3000 watts. Sigineer is the actual manufacturer of all the AIMS inverters.
Can I use two 120V inverters on a 240V panel?
Simply put, you cannot use two 120V inverter's and plug them on a 240V panel and try to spoof the common... that's a fire or worse. I run on 120V only. Look at my system spec details, link in my signature. There is a diagram of how I wired my AC panels, in the cabin, there is a BRIDGE LINE allowing me to use both sides for 120V.
Do 240V inverters have extra losses?
Whether you have a strictly 120VAC or a 240VAC inverter, there is no "extra losses" in either direction. Having a 120VAC unit limits you to 120V only. With a 240V Split Phase, you get 2 active 120V lines and get access to 240V if you need I by using the correct breaker & wiring of course.
How do you connect a ganged breaker to an inverter?
Provide a separate panel for each inverter & bond L1 & 2. Then if a ganged breaker is inserted both traps will be the same hot. Tie both L1 and L2 together with a bridge bus bar, then have inverter 1 go to a 25A breaker. If you add a grid tie type later, have it go to a breaker too. View attachment 2343
Do inverters need to be grounded?
OK so no grid, , once you choose an inverter it will explain how to connect....generally though a TSW inverter will need to be connected , in one place to the ground buss in the Dist box. The D-box will thus need to be grounded. And MSW inverters, generally are not grounded unless specified by manufacturer.
Can a 220V breaker span both legs?
With the way I laid out if one day you accidently put in a 220V breaker that spans both legs it won't harm anything - but you wont get anything more than 110 out of it either since both legs are tied together. I'm trying to figure out how to connect my inverter (s) to a breaker box.
